Spicy Honey Chipotle BBQ Sauce

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 TBS olive oil
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 4 TBS apple cider vinegar
  • 3 TBS molasses
  • 3 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 TBS onion powder
  • 1 tsp. chipotle peppers in adobe sauce (pureed)
  • 1 TBS chili powder
  • 1TBS smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp. cayenne
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup of Delicious Orchards Apple Cider

In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, sauté the garlic in the oil for about 30 seconds until fragrant and lightly browned. Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring mixture to a simmer and, then, reduce heat to low and cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Remove from heat. Sauce should be thick and sticky. It will continue to thicken as it cools. If sauce seems too thick, add 1 tablespoon of water at a time until the sauce reaches desired consistency. With a fine mesh strainer, strain sauce into a pint-sized jar, discarding the garlic pieces. Instead, you can use an immersion blender or food processor to puree the sauce until smooth before pouring into the jar. Store in refrigerator.
