Ingredients
- 3 pound brisket
- 6 kaiser rolls
- 1 1/2 lbs prepared cole slaw
Spice Rub:
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon ground mustard
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
Homemade BBQ Sauce:
- 1 cup ketchup
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons apple cider or white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon Wright’s liquid smoke
Instructions
- The night before, mix the spice rub in a small bowl. Rub the spice mix on both sides of the brisket. Cover and refrigerate overnight or 1hr if short on time.
- Combine the sauce ingredients in a 2-cup measuring cup or medium bowl. Cover and refrigerate overnight or 1hr.
- Just before cooking, place the seasoned brisket fat side up in a 5 or 6 quart slow cooker. Pour the sauce over the brisket.
- Cover and cook on low for 10 hours. Brisket is ready when it’s fork tender.
- When finished, remove the brisket and let it rest on a cutting board for 15-20 minutes. Shred the brisket into small pieces using 2 forks.
- Divide between 6 rolls. Add 1/4 cup of coleslaw and enjoy.
Notes
- If sauce is watery after cooking, boil down in a small pot on the stove.
- To skim off fat let cool in the fridge first.
